Upset: an airplane unintentionally exceeding flight parameters normally experienced in line operations or training: pitch -10? to +25?, bank ?45? and speeds Vso to Vno. An upset flight condition could be caused by environment, mechanical and/or human factors. Here are some examples: wake turbulence, clear air turbulence, thunderstorm, autopilot malfunction, flight control failure, pilot distraction, inadvertent IMC, uncoordinated flight, etc. An upset could lead to one, a combination or a succession of the followings: unusual attitude, stall, incipient spin, spin, spiral dive, inverted flight, ground impact. The first line of defence is of course to avoid the potential upsetting situations. Unfortunately if encountered, many pilots are ill prepared to safely recover unless they are familiar with flying outside normal parameters and proficient in applying proper recovery procedures.
CWA uses certified aerobatic aircraft and instructors to give you a controlled and safe environment to acquire the essential skills needed to effectively recover from an upset. During ground instruction you will learn the many factors susceptible to create an upset so you can avoid them before they occur. Furthermore, through our flight training you will gain the confidence and skills to safely manoeuvre out of an upset flight condition. To gain proficiency in flying at the edge of the envelope, candidates will also be taught fundamental aerobatic manoeuvres.

Upset Recovery Ground School

The ground school consist of 2 hours instruction made up of videos and live power point presentation.

Flight Training

There are three Upset Recovery lesson plans each composed of:

- 30 min preparatory ground instruction (PGI);
- 10 min pre-flight brief;
- 60 min dual flight instruction; and
- 20 min post-flight debrief.

**Based on candidates’ experience and proficiency, each lesson plan could be either shorten or repeated to meet the objectives.**
