Why learn to fly aerobatics?

Aerobatic flying is not only exciting and rewarding, but it will also make you safer by increasing situational awareness ability and skills.

The shaded areas below show the flight parameters normally experienced by pilots in line operation or training. As you can see, it is far short of the full flight envelope of any aircraft. No pilot should venture past those parameters to attempted aerobatic manoeuvres without first having received dual instruction from a qualified aerobatic instructor. At CWA, we provide a safe and controlled environment for license pilots to effectively expand their skills into the fun and exiting world of aerobatics.
***Our aerobatic training syllabus is made up two phases each comprising five Lesson Plans.***

Phase 1 - Basic Aerobatics

Phase 1 is designed for licensed pilots desiring to acquire the skills to safely perform basic aerobatic manoeuvres. At the completion of Phase I, candidates will have the option to continue on with the next 5 lesson plans (Phase II) or they can leave the school to further improve their skills solo before returning to complete their aerobatic certification.

Phase 2 - Aerobatic Certification

Phase 2 is a normal progression for pilots having completed Phase I or having equivalent experience (ex. military pilots). The training requirement for the Aerobatics Certification is 10 hours of dual flight instruction. At the completion of Phase 2, the instructor will certify the candidates’ personal logbook with respect to competency to perform aerobatic manoeuvres. This 10 hour dual aerobatic certification meets the CARs 602.28 (a) requirement for flying with passenger for the purpose of carrying out aerobatic manoeuvring.

Aerobatic Ground School

The ground school consist of 2 hours instruction made up of videos and live power point presentation.

Flight Training

Each aerobatic lesson plan is composed of:

- 30 min preparatory ground instruction (PGI);
- 10 min pre-flight brief;
- 60 min dual flight instruction; and
- 20 min post-flight debrief.

Notes: 1. Factors such as experience, proficiency, G tolerance or airsickness may require that a flight lesson be shorten, completed in two parts or repeated in its entirety.  Each candidate’s aptitudes will be assessed and the syllabus adapted accordingly.

2. Beyond Phase 2, pilots whishing to move on to advanced aerobatics for pleasure or competitive reason will have an individual training program developed to meet their ambitions and needs.   Check out the advanced aerobatic section.
